Introduction

Urunji Child-Care Trust is a registered NGO working at grassroots level to end extreme poverty. The organisation was registered in 2012 with the Malawi Government, registration number TR/IN5564.

Urunji has since maintained active membership with the Council for NGOs in Malawi (CONGOMA) and has complied with the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA) requirements ever since. We also maintain active membership with several alliances both locally and internationally.

Vacancy announcement: Board members

Urunji seeks to recruit board members to replace the current ones who have exceeded their term of office. The elected members will then elect a chairperson at their first sitting slated for December 2025.

Employment type and duration

This is not a paid job. Members do not work full time. The board will have a term of 3 years and is not renewable.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Demonstrated commitment to serve in a board on a pro-borno basis

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • An excellent record and of good standing in the society

  • Be able to commit a day every 4 months to attend board meetings as well as extraordinary meetings

  • Be normally resident in Malawi

  • Ability to interpret financial reports


Education and experience required

The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of a diploma in education awarded by MANEB before year 1994 or bachelor’s degree in either economics, accounting, social work, international development, education or any relevant field with at least 10 years’ experience; or a master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.

Those with professional qualifications from reputable bodies such as ACCA, ICAM, CIMA, PMI are also eligible provided they meet the experience requirements stipulated above.


Duties of board members

  • Review annual financial and narrative reports for the NGO

  • Elect an auditor for the NGO for the financial year

  • Review payments that exceed the threshold for the management team

  • Support fundraising efforts: Each board member will be required to raise at least USD 2,000 annually through their networks

  • Appraise the senior management team (SMT)

  • Review remuneration package for SMT and managerial staff

  • Review the constitution and make amendments where necessary

  • Advise the Executive Director on legal, compliance and other matters

  • Leverage connections, networks and resources to advance the organisation’s mission
