Chipililo loses the battle to cancer
We found Chipilo a mother of 5 struggling with both disease and poverty. Our volunteer Charlotte raised some funds to meet urgent needs as well as repair her dilapidated home.
Urunji facilitated surgery and covered all the incidental costs. Sadly, the cancer resurfaced and she eventually passed away.
Although her death broke our hearts, we believe that it also gave us strength to continue doing good and hope to those in need.
We have learned that early diagnosis of non-cummunicable diseases should be part of our Health & Nutrition programme.
Sewing machines breakdown
Our tailoring programme has helped 85 girls and over 120 women to date. Sadly, our sewing machines began to break one by one and we are back to square one.
What we have learned
We have learned not to go for price but quality. Although the pricing for the sewing machines from China was attractive, they were not as durable as those coming from alternative markets.

Devaluation drove up our construction costs
The cumulative devaluation of the Malawi Kwacha by over 64 percentage points resulted in increased costs for the Urunji village construction project as well as other other expenses.
What we have learned
Having a foreign currency denominated account could help us cushion the effects of currency devaluation.
