Urunji at a glance

It all starts with a child...

Urunji Child-Care Trust works with rural communities in Malawi to end extreme poverty. Instead of a traditional orphanage setup, we support children right from their communities. This ensures that they maintain a sense of community belonging and grow in an environment they are familiar with.

Our Mission

To bring innovative solutions to the communities that will combat poverty, malaria, malnutrition, environmental degradation and HIV/AIDS through education, economic empowerment, community participation, life-skills training and global connections.

Our Vision

Despite all the setbacks and problems Malawi and Africa as a continent face today; We envision a nation where children with quality education, proper nutrition, sound health and life-skills are a reality. We believe there is no Vision without Provision. This is why we are working together with the communities to ensure little dreams turn into great achievements in the near and distant future.

Our Team

We have both full-time and part time employees. We also work with volunteers and interns who are passionate about making the world a better place for children.

Our Core Values

Integrity and Professionalism

Urunji Child-Care Trust ensures that donor funds are used according to the budget line(s) and that all transactions are done in a transparent manner. Any payments above $200 are not made unless approved by the Procurement Committee.

We provide financial reports to donors no matter how big or small a grant/donation is. We believe timely presentation of these reports cements the trust we earn from our donors – the more time it takes to prepare reports, the more suspicious donors become.

Fairness, Equity & Teamwork

We endeavour to reach out to all vulnerable and needy children and their families regardless of their race, educational background, family history or colour. We do not support political parties, religious groups or a particular group of the society.

We involve the grassroots in problem-solving. We do not take an implementation role: we take a facilitator role so that programmes will be sustainable even in the event we wind-up programmes in areas where we work.

Courtesy

All our employees are trained to treat all our stakeholders with respect. We do believe that poverty is not a choice and that poor and needy children should not be taken advantage of.

All our Home Visitors* are specially trained professionals who undergo rigorous training and are hand-picked by the Appointments Committee after a successful working interview.
