  • Q. Can I apply as a volunteer?

    Yes, we proactively recruit volunteers from the communities where we work.

    Unfortunately, we are unable to recruit international volunteers due to government restrictions on expatriate employment.

  • Q. Is there a fee?

    Local volunteers do not need to pay the programme fee. They are however responsible for their transport, accommodation, upkeep, insurance and other incidentals.

  • Q. What is the duration of the placement?

    You can only volunteer for up to a month. Any volunteering beyond 4 weeks could be considered employment and you would have to formally submit an application and undergo the formal recruitment process.

  • Q. What is the minimum amount I can donate?

    You can donate any amount, preferably starting from USD 10

  • Q. Which currencies does Urunji accept?

    We accept donations in all major currencies. This includes US Dollar, Euro, Pound Sterling and South African Rand. We also accept donations in Malawi Kwacha.

  • Q. Is my donation tax-deductible?

    All donations made through our website are tax-deductible as they are processed through our fiscal sponsor.

  • Q. Can I join as an intern?

    Yes, we recruit interns. You must be enrolled with a university or college in a course related to social work, community development, statistics, health, nutrition, and agriculture. 

    We are unable to recruit interns who are pursuing courses not related to NGO work and/or poverty alleviation.

  • Q. Are interns paid?

    We do not pay salaries to interns. However, they receive a small stipend to cover their transportation. Refreshments are also provided during working hours.

  • Q. What is the benefit of doing internship with Urunji?

    You get to support a cause that works at grassroots level. You therefore get hands-on experience of what poverty alleviation work entails.

    We also provide employment reference letters to students who successfully complete their internship with us.
