There are enormous problems faced by orphans. Urunji Child-Care Trust has a child sponsorship program targeting every needy child in Malawi’s Nathenje area. Child sponsorship enhances child nutrition, universal education and hope for a child in need.
Benefits at a glance
Just as in most parts (if not all) of Africa, Malawi enjoys the extended family setup. Technically there are no ‘orphans.’ We understand that most of the institutionalized children have either one parent or some relatives. Our desire is to see children grow in a normal home environment where they receive love and learn skills. This is why we run a child sponsorship programme not a traditional orphanage.
Find out why orphanages are not a solution to the orphan problem by reading this article. You can choose a child to sponsor on this link.
Moreover, a research reported on the BBC website says that sponsored children stay longer in school, are more hopeful and are 83 percent likely to complete university.
Where does the sponsorship money go?
To ensure we run the sponsorship programme with integrity, we have drawn a breakdown of the typical expenses that your monthly $30 investment (donation) will meet. You can download the breakdown on this link.
This is what happens when you sponsor a child: We will provide the most urgent needs using your sponsorship money. We will also set up a first video call so that you get to know each other.

From $30 a month, you can bring hope and health to a child in Malawi through Urunji Child-Care Trust. There are many children awaiting sponsorship and below are some of them. Please check out profiles of children on this link.
Sponsorship FAQ
Please note that unless you indicate, any gift above USD 200 will be shared with the community. This is to ensure equal distribution of resources.
The costs of air travel, accommodation, visa and local travel outweigh the benefits of visiting the child.
You may therefore wish to donate that money instead and ask for a video call with your sponsored child. Thank you for your understanding.
