Culture is defined as ideas, customs, practices, traditions and values that have been passed down from generations to generations. With the passage of time and emergence of globalization the world is shrunk into a global village. Technology if on the one hand has brought impressive changes in the society, albeit on the other it has decreased the individuality of identification. Consequently, technology is likely to predict homogeneity of culture in the near future – thanks to globalization.
Technology and skills-transfer is now possible
Globalization has connected the world at a wider level through technology. People from different cultures and backgrounds can easily connect and communicate to one another through social media tools. Basically, different people with different cultures are united under the umbrella of globalization.
Cultural sharing is becoming the norm
Secondly, people share and adopt each other’s cultural traditions and practices. It is seen that as people share their life with one another so do they share their traditions, customs, practices and values which are seen affectively adopted by people from opposite cultures. For example; eating practices of west have been adopted by Asians, wedding practices of Asia are adopted by countries from Europe and there have been adoption in the customs and practices even at minor stages. As a result of homogeneity intermarriages between cultures is seen at a wider level.
Globalization has brought cultural homogeneity
Finally, globalization has been an important factor in cultural homogeneity through education. Through scholarships, fellowships, traineeships and internships the students of one country belonging to different culture goes to a country having different culture. In this way we see a group of students getting together and sharing their culture with each other through language, attire, cuisines, ideas and traditions thus creating homogeneity. For example; Asian students tend to visit European countries or Middle Eastern countries and similarly students from these regions to Asia.
What does this mean to you?
In conclusion, globalization has created a platform where people gather, mix and exchange their cultural habits. This is a beautiful platform as it is uniting people by bringing them closer but on contrary it is also seen that through all these factors cultures are losing their beauty and becoming homogenous. Every culture is beautiful in its own perspective therefore, it is necessary to maintain the practices and traditions of each culture alive because it is only these that make them unique and beautiful.
