HIV and AIDS in Malawi
Urunji HIV/AIDS Programme
There has been progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Malawi, yet in 2023 official figures indicate that the country recorded 13,875 new HIV infections.
Recorded HIV and AIDS related deaths in Malawi were 11,265. This signifies that the battle against HIV and AIDS is not yet over.
Our HIV and AIDS Programme encompasses 6 key areas as outlined below:

Our Prevention Strategy
Early diagnosis
We focus on improvement of and early diagnosis of HIV and tuberculosis in children and adolescents.
Prevention
We work with communities and stakeholders to enhance prevention of mother to child transmission.
Increasing access
We cultivate partnerships that help to increase access to quality treatment and support for HIV patients.
Support for key populations
We support key populations (commercial sex workers, LGBTI and men having sex with men (MSM) to ensure reduction in transmission.
Improving quality of life
We provide training of caregivers at grassroots level., thereby improving qualify of life (QoL) of those diagnosed with HIV and TB.
Youth-friendly services
We facilitate training of and refresher training for peer educators, enhancing improvement of youth friendly services at community level.
